Do It or Don't Do It

Re-reads.

It's crazy I am choosing to re-read books when I could be reading new books. But re-reading has been a balm to my soul this week. I already mentioned that I'm re-reading The Lord of the Rings. I've just about completed "The Fellowship." (I am still terrified of black riders.)

This week I've dipped my toes back into Stephen Pressfield's creative classic "The War of Art," in which the force actively pursuing our creative output is made as tangible of an enemy as black riders. He calls the Enemy "Resistance." Until your Enemy is named, you often don't even know it exists.

Resistance is ultimately why I stopped blogging daily in December. I was convinced I needed to do another thing, a thing that would be better. Instead, I did nothing. The Resistance won that battle.

I'm determined to not allow my creative black riders to win this war.

Are you a born writer? Were you put on earth to be a painter, a scientist, an apostle of peace? In the end, the question can only be answered by action.

Do it or don’t do it.
— Stephen Pressfield
