Don't be the Thief

What happens when you’re the “Little Thief" ?

When self-awareness floods your mind and soul and you see you’re a part of this problem.
You’re the one emailing colleagues when a text would suffice, or calling a meeting when it could have been an email.
Or a memo.
Or nothing at all. Just do the hard work that is your job.

In our fervor for connection and desire to build the team, sometimes we do the opposite. Your personal productivity is not the only productivity that matters.
Be cognizant of the time and attention of others. Work to make their lives easier.

Meetings, for example.

Do you schedule meetings with colleagues because you really need to collaborate with them? Or do you schedule meetings because the project you are working on requires hard work and laziness calls a meeting? At least it’s off the list. A meeting is scheduled. On to the next thing.
But that meeting is time out of the day for an entire group of people who could otherwise accomplish critical work.

Don’t be a thief.
Don’t call a meeting to make your life easier.
Don't call a meeting when a Google search will do.

Your calendar is sacred space. Show your colleague’s calendars the same respect.
