The World is Not Waiting For You

Steven Pressfield is one of my favorite authors. For those who don’t know, he’s the Bagger Vance guy. But if you haven’t read “The War of Art” you should stop farting around online reading blogs, order this book and read it straight away. It’s a book which is that important. (I read this at least once per year. You could reasonably read it every month.)

Pressfield has another provocatively titled book called “No One Wants To Read Your Sh*t.

The book is a wake-up call to aspiring writers.
You’re not all that.
The world is not waiting with bated breath for your debut novel release.
The world doesn’t even care about you.

It’s up to you to write something people care about. Something people will pay attention to. Something worth reading.

The same principle is true for dentists and financial advisors. Grocery stores and coffee shops. Consultants and “online entrepreneurs” (whatever that means).

The world is not waiting for you.

The world does know or care you exist for the most part.

How you present yourself to the world is up to you. And is possibly one of the most important things about your business and your brand. Only you can be you. Your voice is the only voice like yours. You are the only one who can tell your stories and share your ideas.

Because while Pressfield’s cynical title is absolutely true, it’s also possible to do work that sets you apart.

Do your work, in your unique voice.

When you do, you’ll find some folks (not all folks) in this world will want to know everything you have to say.
