Fall is the Season of Death

It could be the season.

Fall is about death.

All things are on the demise. My tomato plants on the back deck are nothing but empty vines. Leaves are down. The rain and storms over the next few days will result in more bare trees. The harvest is in. Now it’s time for the ground to cover over with mulch and decay and, at least in some places, frost and snow. Greens pass to shades of brown and black.
Death is the theme of the season.
And it’s my favorite.

It’s also a fact.

We’re all going to die.

I had this conversation in a meeting this week. (Weird for a meeting topic, I know. But it was a great meeting.) Some people find this morbid talk. It’s reality. Face it squarely. We don’t have forever on this planet.

How am I going to leave this a better place than it was before I was here?

That could be one of the most important questions you ask yourself in this life.

“Making a difference” isn’t limited to starting a non-profit, feeding hungry children, or creating a solution for world peace. It does mean extracting your purpose for being here. Use this one, single, wild life for the greatest good. That doesn’t mean we have to be well-known. It doesn’t mean becoming an influencer on Instagram (whatever that means).

It does mean you find your song, and you sing it loud.
Find your story, and write it well.
Find your purpose for being here, and live it fully.

Because Winter is coming for everyone.
