Don’t be an Incredible Leader
Credibility is one of the most important factors in business and leadership.
But we think “incredible” is what the people want.
Novel. Astounding, Unbelievable.
But we misuse this word.
I want an incredible movie-going experience. An incredible experience at an amusement park is fine.
I don’t want an incredible leader.
Leadership (and business, in general) is about credibility. Can I trust you? Will you lead me to the wrong decision? Are you trustworthy? Do we share the same values and goals?
Incredible leaders are dynamic and larger-than-life. They magnetize your senses with big personalities and are capable of gathering the crowds with their pyrotechnics, magic shows, and dancing bear acts.
This looks like leadership, but it’s entertainment.
Incredible leaders often make headlines, but rarely change the world. There is an inevitable crash and burn. The fallout is certain.
No one follows incredible, because incredible rarely goes anywhere beyond the front of the room. Leading from the back begins with credibility. Credible leadership changes the world.
Few ultimately buy from incredible.
We work with people, businesses, and organizations who exude assurance, conviction, and confidence.
Trust and credibility win the day in the long run. Always.
