Coffee Shop Saturdays - Generoasta Coffee, Warrendale, PA

Landed on a new coffee spot this week while hanging out in a little place called Cranberry Township, PA. There's not much here other than people who commute to Pittsburgh and the soulless businesses that sprout up in such bedroom communities - Best Buy, Kohl's, and Starbucks.

Generoasta is a regional exception to the suburban mundane. This little shop is actually located in Warrendale and was well worth the short 10-minute drive from where we stayed.

As readers of this blog in general, and coffee shop Saturday posts in particular, you will know that we tend to seek out a better brew than what is typically found at local hotels and donut shops. Generoasta was a great find. And it wasn’t only about the coffee.

The Coffee is great but...

Don’t get me wrong. The coffee was amazing. Renee’ loved her daily latte. I enjoyed a cup of whatever single origin was being brewed for the day. At one time they roasted their own beans. Apparently, the roaster broke a couple of years ago and they have been outsourcing the roasting process ever since. Bottom line — the coffee was great. Not what you might find at many third wave coffee shops (pourer options, etc.). It was better than hotel coffee and much better than the place with the green mermaid.

... the food!

But here’s the thing with Generoasta: this place has amazing food. First day Renee’ and I both were a little peckish and ordered a salad with our coffee. The salads were fresh and astoundingly well prepared. We tried several other food items from there during our visit and were never disappointed. (Or hungry!)

Generoasta is Generous

The staff is incredibly friendly. The location is comfortable. Ceilings are high so there’s a bit of echo inside, but step outside onto the patio and it is a perfect place to have a meeting with a friend. As indicated by the name, Generoasta also gives a significant amount of their proceeds to various local and global charities.

Good coffee for good. I like it.

We enjoyed hanging out this week at Generoasta and recommend you hang out too, should you ever be in the greater Pittsburgh area. Great coffee, friendly people, excellent food.
