What is Best For Your Work?
Routine.
It’s boring.
Mundane and terrestrial.
And routine is possibly the most important tool you have for doing your most important work.
Change it up? Do it differently today.?
You can. This seems like it might make some sense.
But research into productivity shows that change doesn’t make us more productive. Routine makes us more productive.
The issue is - it must be your routine. The thing that works for you.
Research around productivity and routines has led to the popularity of books and articles about the routines of all the famous people. We love to read about how the greats have done it in the past. Or even how want-to-be greats are doing it right now.
Which is fine. Unless you spend so much time reading about the routines of others that you don’t establish a routine for yourself.
Don’t worry so much about how JK Rowling or Maya Angelou or Elon Musk order their days.
On this happy Monday morning, order your own day. Order your week. And stick to it.
Work out what works best for your work.
Then do that work.
Because in the end, it’s the work that matters. Not the specifics of your (or JK Rowling’s) routine.
