Make Something

We are being trained to passivity. So break out.

This is not a Brave New World-esque, dystopian warning. But it is true. The things we look at, watch, consume — it's about me "vegging" (I don't even know if that's how to spell this word). I've had a long day so I will "chill" by hanging out on social media or watching TV.

Don't make being a vegetable your goal. Make something.

We are programmed to consume because the advertisers need us to consume. The clicks and scrolls and views are imperative for their bank accounts. But not good for our brains.

But here's the problem, we are using expensive, powerful devices for passive consumption.

What if we used the same devices for active creation?

These tools have given everyone the possibility of making music and writing stories. Of putting something beautiful into the world. Start a blog. Make an app. Create a spreadsheet.

Use the tool to make. Do you know what you carry in your pocket?

Follow the "shot on iPhone" series by Apple. It's beautiful and astounding. And most of you have one, or something just as capable.

Take the time to make today. It doesn't have to be good. In fact, it probably won't be. But it will move your brain from passivity to activity. And that's healthy.

THere will always be consumers. There are far fewer creators.

Be one.
